  • over on patreon Camille Alexander asked for evil women so you know i had to make a whole squad that mixed in a bunch of other prompts.

Amy Crook wanted bones, Siadea wanted hummingbirds, FyreNWater wanted ‘soft, yet unyeilding, Triskadeka12 wanted discarded cocoons (though the one here is still in use), Beelezbuddy wanted lamps, and Kona Goodhart wanted 'wagtails sing’.

Fun Fact: all of these ladies can take on human form, at least for a little while, but drawing them in their more fae/monstery forms is much more fun.

These 4 ladies are the Queens of the House Of Returned Wings. It’s a secret society where people who know in their hearts that they must have fae blood or were a fae in a past life learn to use their latent powers to take control of their lives, be their own bosses, and eventually cross the veil to regain their rightful status in the realm of the fae. One teeny tiny problem is that only people who can really prove they deserve to be uplifted get to come live at the House where they can mingle with the Queens and learn the true fae arts before they are sent across the veil to start their new lives. So much recruitment and strange rituals and labor intensive but low paying work to be done. So many paychecks that are desperately needed turned into envelopes full of cash that are thrown into fairy circles that appear in back yards and are gone as soon as backs are turned.

But those little bits of magic you get back are totally worth it.  The queens give out such amazing wishes for loyalty. So what if the price becomes heavier each time and the wishes seem to wear off quicker and quicker with more and more disastrous results? That’s only because the magic is borrowed from these incredibly gracious ladies. If you work hard enough you’ll have your own magic back, and you won’t have to worry about any silly time limit or spell corruption.

No, this isn’t a super culty magic MLM. Why do you ask?

    Let’s talk about the queens.

  • character design commission for Hypothermya over on patreon! here we have Sabine (fae/faer) the  Sairdonín fae-demon just chillin’ in a less mortal form.

Sabine usually mimics a wolf or a human and likes things that are full of the subtle chaos of life. I mainly designed around the description that if fae saw a glass of filtered lake water, fae would knock it off the table like a sassy cat since it would lack the life and interest that it should.

I wanted the fur to look like a collection of all the neat  fur colors fae’ve seen on passing wolves. The hair is the same. It looks dark from far away but gives off a subtle rainbow sheen like a puddle of oil, and up  close you can see individual hairs of all different colors and textures.  I figure fae can shift into one particular hair type if fae want, but why have one when you can have a lovely selection? I almost  gave faer skin some vitiligo-type patches to keep with the theme but  decided on a peachy brown with slightly darkened points that would keep  faer human form’s race vague.

This was a really fun character prompt to do. It was kind of like designing a REMwolf, which I’m always a fan of drawing. Also I added the plain sketch because I just think it’s neat.

  • design/fashion patreon sketch commissions for Laurel Kona Hart of their Invisible Sun fae character, Sound of Bells! included here is a general look, some sleepwear, a dramatic opera outfit, and a surprise summer look that they let me design prompt free. i had a lot of neat design prompts to work with, notably costumes from the “Shades of White” ballet , inhuman coldness, bells, cages, and wisteria/sunset inspired color pallets.

    Design Notes:

i’m a big fan of using different materials as a hair substitute with my  own characters so I thought it would be cool to style their headwrap  different ways for different occasions. for example, that sleek summer fit uses the headwrap as both sweeping locks and a slinky cape.

the sheer fabric on the opera fit isn’t actually fabric, it’s a sort of  feather-light expertly crafted crystal. fancy acoustics for the bells  and if they need to get everyone’s attention they can tap on the crystal  with their opera glasses to create a lovely (but slightly eerie)  chiming sound.

the sleep outfit can be worn two ways. the way you see here, and if  you lift the fur skirt up to your shoulders you can wear it like a  hooded fur cloak. imagine the dramatic reveal of walking into a room in a  twilight colored fur and dropping it to reveal the sheer skirt and  Dramatic Sleeves. also any of those indigo pearls on their sleeves can  turn into a small floating lamp if need be.

thanks again for letting me play with your character!

  • A post it note is stuck on the cover of a battered journal. Bold black sharpie spells out the following:

If you are reading this, aliens are not real.

Collection of false alien sitings in rural town of [redacted]. Spring 2010. Entry 1

I’m pretty sure the fae figured out that people were on to them ages ago. The first ‘alien’ sighting was what, ten years to the day after the last disappearance? I guess they needed different lures and getting into that old tourist trap was probably really easy considering the dude who runs it (well…RAN it. Pretty sure the thing at the counter isn’t him) refused to put up the iron and use a fake name like I told him to. Should have taken his own advice about believing.

Anyway, that’s probably where they got the idea to trade in ethereal human beauty and glorious wings for grey skinned weirdos. Now we’ve got ‘aliens’ showing up all over the county trying to trade wishes for teeth and generally reveling in the fact that no one seems to be onto them yet. Well, no one but me.

  • Some design concepts from patreon that I’ve been thinking about lately integrated into colorful dancers who would cut each other on stage but are probably on sassy but amicable terms otherwise. lady up top is based on mushrooms with boar and moth elements. I liked the idea of her legs mimicking the lacy veils some mushrooms have and will probably re-use that concept because i think it looks neat.

The dude on the bottom is based on banana slugs, sea slugs, and origami. I wanted to play with the idea of a race of slug nymphs much like my oyster nymphs, who have a ‘regular’ slug body but use their slime to extend themselves into a more humanoid form to walk around in. I’ll probably also explore this more later.  I also though it would be funny if his color had nothing to do with the toxicity that should come with it. Like, he looks very edgy and poisonous when at most he can give you a weird tingle.

catch up inktober from patreon. @anoki requested something parasitic. while i have other things in mind for that prompt, i had to draw one of my favorite parasite oc’s, the Mainlander Queen.

just  a nice old lady inviting you into her parlor for a casual tea. nothing to be afraid of.

    Another patreon kelpie story.

Margie went in with the boxes and the packing tape once the police were done with the mess on the shore. The family would be flying out tomorrow, and she felt it was kinder to have everything already boxed up and ready for shipping before they got here. Less for them to worry about in their time of grief. Less time for strangers to wander the bloodstained grounds.

Such a shame. He had been so nice to her. It was refreshing having one of them treat her like like a person instead of a quirky prop for their ‘Life-Changing Scottish Adventure At The Kelpie’s Cottage’.

The young man hadn’t been the first to take interest in the kelpie. It was big local news for a while,as any unglamored fae openly walking round modern Scotland would be. Not that everyone didn’t believe there were fae still among them (there was strong evidence for it in the fates of the people who didn’t) but there were definitely less of them and they were usually not feebly nosing through bins at the park.

    Usually.

@Feverworm prompted me to draw some of their delightful trash fae species over on patreon. i drew up a little gang of mutants, most of which might not even survive their metamorphosis if the lore is correct. barebones personalities are as follows:

top left: too short and stout, weird horns. friendly but too clever and too willing to scam or steal food directly from the hippie couple who sells stuff down at the organic market. used to steal the rocks from their crystal collection and scratch doodles into everything until they started leaving bags of chalk out.

top right: too many spines, curious and excited. rips pictures out of books for their ‘studies’ and leaves behind 'perfectly good’ replacements. the most scared about possible problems during metamorphosis.

bottom left: many many mutations. the twins are mysterious little daredevils. they absolutely don’t expect to survive to adulthood so they don’t really 'get’ long term repercussions and are generally super mischievous.

bottom right: underdeveloped back legs basically makes it look like they have a seal for a tail. being the only egg of their clutch to survive and being sickly for a spell afterwards made their Monarch a little over protective. they’re just now venturing farther away from their home territory. loves to swim.
